Firearms Are Prohibited on All PCPS Properties
Posted on 09/24/2025
PCPS families and community members,

As you may be aware, “open carry” is going into effect statewide, meaning Florida residents will no longer be required to conceal firearms while in public.

However, please be advised that state law still prohibits firearms in certain locations, whether they are concealed or carried openly. This includes schools, school facilities and school administration buildings. In addition, firearms can not be brought into any meeting of the governing body of a public school district.

What this means for Polk County Public Schools: All previous restrictions on firearms will still apply. Parents, guardians and community members are NOT permitted to have firearms (concealed or open carry) on any PCPS property, or at Polk County School Board meetings.

The law will not impact the law enforcement officers and professional armed security who serve in our district. We appreciate everyone’s support and understanding to keep our schools and community safe.
