Yesterday we gathered at McLaughlin Academy of Excellence to celebrate the school’s newest career-readiness program.
McLaughlin partnered with Duke Energy to open the Duke Energy Academy this year. The program covers technical knowledge and job-specific skills to help students explore careers in the energy industry.
The Duke Energy Academy is open to McLaughlin students beginning in seventh grade, and more than 90 students are enrolled this year. Participants can choose from two paths: Business Management Analysis, which prepares students for jobs involving corporate leadership and customer service; and Electrical Technician, which focuses on renewable energy and electrical line work.
Students in the Duke Energy Academy also have opportunities to take part in dual enrollment college courses, and on-the-job training.
A special thanks to our partners at Duke Energy for making this all possible.
