PCPS knows BBQ.
Earlier this month, three teams from Polk County Public Schools traveled to Kansas City, Kan. for the 2025 High School BBQ (aka HSBBQ) National Championship, where they competed against more than 90 saucy squads from around the country.
Congratulations to our students and coaches from George Jenkins High (GJQ), Roosevelt Academy (E Street BBQ) and Winter Haven High (Devil Q).
The Roosevelt team earned a third-place finish in the steak category, ranked 13th in chicken, and placed 18th overall. The Winter Haven High team also did well, finishing eighth in the grilled cheese category and 16th in ribs.
Thanks to all three squads for representing our district so well on the national stage! It’s clear that PCPS can take the heat, and make the meat.
