We are pleased to announce that Polk County STILL has the smartest students in Florida.
A team of Polk students won first place last weekend at the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge in Orlando. It marked the second year in a row that Polk students emerged victorious at the event, which is touted as “Florida’s premier high school academic competition.”
Team Polk, comprised of public and private high school students, finished first in Division One, which includes the state’s largest school districts and is generally regarded as the event’s toughest division. The Academic Challenge features teams from throughout Florida answering questions on various academic subjects and competing for scholarships, trophies and bragging rights.

- Abrar Amin from IB Haines City
- James Lovely and Liam Moraczewski from All Saints Academy
- Sarah McKinney (alternate) from Harrison School for the Arts
- Farrell Dugazon (alternate) from Chain of Lakes Collegiate High
- Coaches Peggy Frisbie and Chris Guice from Bartow High
Landaeta also received special recognition as one of six students named to Team Florida.
